438 gram individual. L6
TKW 160 kg. Observed fall 1879 in Queensland, Australia.
Herbert writes:
The Tenham meteorite shower fell in spring, 1879. However, it was not scientifically described until 1937. Unfortunately, many details of the fall have been lost in the nearly 60 years between the fall and the first publication, including the precise date of the fall. Originally, 102 stones, totaling 107 3/4 lbs, arrived at the British Museum, London, in 1935. Many more stones have been recovered since.
The specimen shown here is a 438 g individual, probably collected in the early 1980's, i.e. more than hundred years after it fell. The strewnfield map seen in one of the pictures is from the 1937 paper "The Tenham (Queensland) meteoritic shower of 1879" by L. J. Spencer formerly Keeper of Minerals in the British Museum. |

What a great example of this Australian meteorite,
It has lots of contraction cracks and is a sizeable whole stone.
