886 grams.   L6

The full name is Ksar Ghilane 001.

TKW 5.51 grams. Fall not observed. Found 10 Jan 2008, Tatawin, Tunisia.

David writes:
L6 meteorite found by me and Jose Vicente Casado on our first expedition to search for meteorites. It weights 886g. First meteorite discovery for both. It was on Jan 10th 2008 and next discovery was KG 002, a Shergottite !! MetSoc NomCom then assigned a DCA to its surroundings. Nice start !

Since then a lot of adventures and dozens of new discoveries with Cazameteoritos team (Jose Vicente Casado, Jordi Llorca, Ion Ander Lanza, Emma Ardanaz and me).

Just a minute before that very first discovery I was taking a panorama with my new FullHD camera (remember, it was 2008) and just after discovery I started the camera again. The result is this funny video

Thank you for your comments. Yes the TKW must be 5.5Kg, and after a short visit to the strewn last year it's now 6Kg. You can watch more videos from us at youtube and enjoy Jos* Vicente esthusiasm in every new find (now nearly 60!.

The specimen is stated as weighing 886 grams and the TKW is only 5.56 grams? Did you mean 5.56 Kgrams?

I've discovered my fair share of DCA's here in North America over the past 20 years, but nothing like your Ksar Ghilane. What is it about the Sahara that, in your very first DCA, your second find is a shergottite! Phenomenal!
