What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Thin section through crossed polarizers.   L3

TKW 36.1 grams. Fall not observed. Found 2006.

Hanno writes:
The week after the Ensisheim Show, we had a workshop at the University of Freiburg with Tony Irving about thin sections. Tony brought thin sections from nearly all types and classes of meteorites, and we had the chance to look at them under high quality microscopes with polarized light. We also brought some of our private TS with us to study.

It was not possible to do photos with a Digital SLR through the microscope, but I had the idea to try my mobile phone. It is a ordinary Samsung S5. I was surprised about the good results.

First of all: nice TS! And it is amazing what one can image with a smartphone. My college students are always taking great photos of not only the Moon through the telescopes, but Jupiter and Saturn.

Impressive image from a mobile phone! I attended Tony's thin section workshop in Denver a few years ago and was a very educational experience.

Amazing! Stunning results! NWA 4637 seems to be rich in porphyritic chondrules. Thanks for sharing!
