43.8 grams.   H?

TKW 860 grams. Fall not observed. Found 1957, Randall County, Texas, USA.

Terry writes:
MetBul shows classification as an H? (that is H question mark) and defines this as "An ordinary chondrite that may be from the H group and for which petrologic type has not been determined." Canyon is one of only two of this classification (as listed in MetBul), the other being Hachi-oji from Japan.

Provenance on this goes back to the Institute of Meteoritics at the University of New Mexico. The inventory markings on this piece, I believe, are from Lincoln La Paz who founded the IOM where he was the director until approximately 1966.

From Albuquerque and Lincoln La Paz, certainly a precursor, and from what I have read, one who did not get along with H.H. Nininger. Certainly a rare one. Thanks Terry.

Thanks for sharing. Lived in Japan as a young boy, and saw a minor 'meteor shower' and it really made a lasting impression on me. Don Cracraft 2650

Does anyone have background information on its TKW? The Catalogue of Meteorites says the TKW is 120.9 gr and so does the scanned text in the Met.Bull. writeup
