This specimen underwent a hot water/aluminum foil/sodium carbonate galvanic cleaning process to minimize any chance of chloride rot from Lawrencite and/or Akaganeite. It seems to have produced a darker then normal color, too.

I learned on page 44 of the latest issue of Astronomy that in 1953 American geochemist Clair Cameron Patterson studied lead isotopes from uranium decay in a Canyon Diablo specimen to deduce the first accurate age estimate of the solar system - 4.55 billion years. A picture of a CD accompanied the article and was attributed to some guy named Robert Haag :)
