Before the NWA meteorites appeared on the market, the Kenna ureilite was for a long time the (almost) only ureilite available for private collectors, as well for museum collections and universities.

The shown sample is a Kenna block with some crust and five cut faces. Three cut faces are step-like wire cut faces, due to the nano-size diamonds within the ureilite.

It was very hard to take good pictures of the dark gray to black ureilite . Therefore I choose a darker background to get a smoother contrast to the sample. The close-up images are 5.5 x 8 mm.

University trade 1989.

Great piece . . . I love the way the diamonds caused the unusual appearance of the cut faces. I have a small slice of that meteorite that doesn't show anything like that on its faces, so I suspect they may have been polished out -- I need to pull it out now and see if the thin edges show anything similar. I knew there were diamonds in Kenna, but I had never seen this kind of cut feature before. Thanks!
