149.6 grams. 80 x 47 x 22 mm. L6
TKW 18 kg. Observed fall 15 February 1814, Donetsk, Ukraine.
Jürgen/jnmczurich writes:
Another interesting collection piece from old and very historical days: Bachmut, Donetsk Region, Ukaine. The Bachmut L6 chondrite fell on February 15, 1814.
There is a somewhat unclear situation between the two very similar ukrainian falls, called Bachmut (fall from February 15, 1814, L6, Fa 24, Fetot 22.37%) and Pavlograd (fall from May 19, 1826, L6, Fa 25, Fetot 21.35%). However, measurements of radiation ages show that Bachmut and Pavlograd belong to different falls, but there is confusion with some sample names (mixed up in old times...).
The shown, very fresh fragment with large cut and polished faces is a confirmed Bachmut piece that I received in exchange from a ukrainian museum with the help of a good friend in 1997. |
