The creek took its name from High Island Lake, a lake along its course.

Yes, John, odd name, but then there are many meteorites with odd names in the West, like Long Island or Sand Creek, both of them from Kansas.

Unique name for anything let alone a meteorite fall location.. the words (high, island, creek) don't go together in any logical way...which is cool in its own way. Must be a Native American name of some type.
