226.5 grams. 69 x 27 x 23mm.   Unclassified

Darryl writes:
An oriented iron meteorite, classification unknown, from the Sahara Desert

Draped in a gunmetal patina, this teardrop-shaped specimen evidences the classic heat shield parabola at both ends. Uncommon on a meteorite’s external surface, swatches of its medium octahedral crystalline matrix is in evidence — which is diagnostic in the identification of this being a meteorite (as was Blaine Reed’s x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis).

CHRISTIE'S, the world’s largest auction house, is now conducting an online meteorite auction which concludes May 10th at 10:00a (EDT /GMT -4). The meteorite pictured is Lot 12 in the offering.
