This Diogenite sample was found before it was explicitly forbidden to collect meteorites in Oman deserts. By knowing only the published Met Bulletin coordinates and years after the first recovery of Dhofar 700 (2002) and many hunting teams later it was not really expected to find an additional sample. It took two days with hours of slowly driving and walking time thru the desert to spot this beauty and to realize, that this is a real meteorite. The find was made shortly before the two man hunting team wanted to give up searching in this area and to move to another place.

Looking for "dark grey" stones, like written into the Met Bulletin description for Dhofar 700, but the found sample turned out to look more like a yellow/brownish block of crystalline brown sugar. All sides without crust.

Weight of polished end section: 174.6 g

Dimensions of end section: 86 x 48 x 22 mm

The cose-up image (about 6 x 8 mm) shows a typical vug. The depth of the vug was checked with a needle to be 2.5mm.

The thin section was made from another Dhofar 700 specimen. Cross-polarized filter pictures.
