What is a thin section?       What do all the colors mean?
Thin section between crossed polarizers.   Eucrite

TKW 82 grams. Fall not observed. Found March 2000, Morocco.

Don't miss the zoomable hi-res picture on Flicker.

Solar writes:
A mosaic of 61 images created with my microscope and CCD (A3550UPA CCD 5MP).

Found in Agoult, Morocco, this unbrecciated eucrite contains relatively large zircon crystals which crystallized around the date 4,554.5 Ma. Considering its ancient age, along with its mineralogy and petrology, the Agoult Meteorite is likely a unique sample of the original Vestan crust. This thin section, seen under cross polarized light, exemplifies nature’s artistic ability to create beautiful stained glass.
