428 grams.   Iron, IIIAB

TKW 528 grams. Fall not observed. Found 2001, Antofagasta, Chile.

DCOM writes:
This sculptured iron was found by Jim Labenne in the Imilac strewnfield in 2012. It is one of 15 Atacama irons of the class IIIAB. The top is covered with pockmarks, small wide pits and sharp ridges that are typical for irons from the Atacama desert. They probably arised from the presence of alkali nitrates in the soil. The piece shows a range of shades from brownish crimson over to ocher to white salpeter and calcrete deposit build-up. The hemispherical depression at the top clearly marks the former location of a large troilite. The endcut displays two bilaterally symmetrical cusps, reminiscent of a "cosmic Venus".

Awesome iron from Chile with its typical weathering crust from the Atacama desert (lots of fine pits). Very aesthetic!
